Whether you look for protection from prying eyes, secure enclosure that keeps trespassers outside while pets and children inside or just a decorative perimeter showing borders of your property, wood fence is a great option. So thus, host of other fencing materials. Why then wood is so prevalent as far as fencing is concerned? It offers advantages that other products don’t. For one thing, is its price. Even the highest quality wooden boards can be obtained for a fraction of vinyl or aluminum cost. Yet, plenty of homeowners without budget constraints decide on that option as wood fencing offers more than just affordability. Another factor is its versatility.  Even if cedar is the most popular, there is no saying that you cannot purchase any other type of wood, which appeals to you. Moreover, it can be stained or painted on virtually every color, you may imagine and makes ‘dreams come true’ choice for any DIYer.

CONS OF WOOD FENCING

Wood is affordable, versatile and easy to build. Unfortunately, those qualities don’t make it fencing panacea. One of the most common drawbacks is such fence maintenance. Humidity, rain, snow or termites can take their toll on the material and drastically lower the construction lifespan as well as diminish its looks. Of course, proper sealants and chemical treatments can mitigate most problems to a degree but it’s not a hundred percent sure solution as some insects may quickly spread to other wooden buildings. Another common problem with wooden fence is its sinking into the ground over time and thus distorting the shape of whole construction. Fortunately, that particular issue can be mitigated by installation of concrete fence base. Basing on those aspects, you may deem wood fencing inappropriate for your purpose but sometimes it’s more than sheer practicalities. Wood may be considered plain, so if you want to stand out, you should seek for different material.
